What is Communication & Relationship Management?

Communications and Relationship Management is built on bringing your own balanced and intentional self into working with other people one-on-one more effectively. It helps you be more clear in your communications (including giving and receiving feedback), transforming conflict between people into productive dialog and shaping relationships to be more constructive.

How to Fix Relationships

Relationships are so complex that you may have work on fixing them from multiple angles before you find the approach that works best. The following process is a suggested order in which to work on turning a dysfunctional relationship into one that functions for you. (the numbers refer to the relevant CORE PRACTICES to support you.)

  1. Detrigger Emotionally (2)
  2. Get to positive beliefs and language (5 & 13)
  3. Have clear meaning (15)
  4. Align at a deeper level to transform conflict (16)
  5. Understand the agreement (17)
  6. Renegotiate the agreement (18)

When you take this approach, the issues within the relationship may resolve at any point. Sometimes before you’ve even brought up the issues with the other person in an direct way.

The CORE PRACTICES in this section include:

  • InPower Language - Understand the vocabulary - and the intent behind it - that naturally and authentically positions you as focused and credible
  • Giving/Receiving Feedback - Learning how to give and receive feedback clearly and in ways that you and others can "hear" and absorb
  • Transforming Conflict - Identifying sources of conflict and transforming them into sources of connection, respect and forward progress
  • Facilitating Meaning - Understanding how people talk past each other and connect so you can ensuremore connection
  • Deconstructing Agreements - Looking at how relationships function for both parties and decoding the unspoken expectations, transforming them into more overt agreements
  • Negotiations Mapping - Identifying what matters to both parties and how to pursue agreement while maintaining a strong position
