Some fascinating research is empowering us to think of sexism, racism and lots of other prejudices as physiological and psychological blindspots we all have. They're "caused" by the natural functions of the brain and we have more choice in whether we act on them than we think we do. The best way not to become limited by our biases is to learn to see them operating in ourselves and in others.
